Page Museum of La Brea Discoveries Photos

The George C. Page Museum of La Brea Discoveries sits beside the La Brea Tar Pits in Hancock Park. These tar traps were where a massive number of saber tooth tigers, mastodons, ground sloths and other species were excavated. The Tar Pits were so rich in such skeletons because animals which became trapped attracted scavengers and predators which also died in the trap. The collection, once housed at Exposition Park in the Natural History Museum, was moved back to Hancock Park in 1976 into a building designed by Thornton & Fagan Assoc.
