Stone Mountain, Atlanta Photos

The centerpiece of Stone Mountain Park, 16 miles east of Atlanta, is a relief carved in what is said to be the largest dome of exposed granite in the world. The carving conceived & started by John Gutzon de la Mothe Borglum, who also carved Mount Rushmore, was finished by others because of disputes over Ku Klux Klan control. It shows Confederate General Robert E. Lee, President Jefferson Davis & General Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. An antique railroad ride circles the mount & an Antebellum Plantation has been recreated from heritage buildings relocated here from elsewhere in Georgia.
