Just inland from the Kona Coast sits the Parker Ranch, the largest in the USA, centered at the town of Kamuela, which also has a family-run museum & some heritage buildings. Further north are archeological ruins like Pu'ukohuta Heiau National Historic Site & Lapakahi State Historical Park. Some of the valley's on the north coast are so rugged they can only be seen from the air or one-like Waipio Valley where descent is only for experts in 4WD vehicles.
