Amana, IA Photos

The Amana Colonies consists of seven small villages settled by a religious group of Inspirations in 1861, moving from Buffalo, NY where they settled about 1843 after fleeing persecution in Germany. The colonies were run as a commune until 1932 & collectively set up enterprises like Maytag & woolen mills.
