Old Louisiana State Capitol, Baton Rouge Photos

The Gothic-Revival Old State Capitol (1847-50) was designed by James Dakin. During the Civil War (1862), the building overlooking the Mississippi River was burned to its brick shell. It was restored in 1882 under architect William A. Freret. After the Legislature moved to the new Capitol in 1932, the building served a number of functions & today houses a museum.
