Bridges of Pittsburgh Photos

Being located where the Monongahela & Allegheny Rivers meet to form the Ohio River, Pittsburgh commissioned John A. Roebling to build its first suspension bridge in 1846. This bridge was later replaced by the Smithfield Street Bridge (1881-9) engineered by Gustav Lindenthal. Several bridges from historic to modern now help define the city.
