John Calvin Portman Jr. (1924) is best known for the Peachtree Center in Atlanta, GA, the Hyatt Regency & Embarcadero Center buildings in San Francisco, CA, the Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles and the Renaissance Center in Detroit. His noted contribution to architecture is the open atrium lobby in hotels.
