Céleron Plate, the only surviving lead marker placed by the French along the Ohio River in 1749 at Museum of Virginia History. Since Virginia also claimed the River, George Washington was sent to get the French out, leading to the 1754 French & Indian Wars spreading to the Seven Years War in Europe resulting in French surrender of Canada in 1763.
