Fugger & Welser Life Museum, Augsburg Photos

Fugger und Welser Erlebnismuseum (Äusseres Pfaffengässchen 23, Augsburg) reflects the nature of early (16thC) capitalism & trade, focusing on the two very wealthy Augsburg families for which it is named. Jakob Fugger, sometimes called the richest man who ever lived, was a major German merchant, mining entrepreneur, & banker. Welser family members were highly successful merchants, bankers & traders, but are also known for their role in slave trading & plunder in early colonial Venezuela. The museum uses a range of audio-visual & interactive exhibits to recount the history of the two families and how they became so rich.
