Ottobeuren Benedictine Abbey Photos

Ottobeuren Benedictine Abbey (founded 764, rebuilt baroque style c1748), whose patron was Charlemagne, was a self-ruling imperial abbey of the Holy Roman Empire. It experienced periods of both decline & prosperity over subsequent centuries. In the mid-18thC, Ottobeuren was re-built in what is considered a highlight of Bavarian late baroque style. Its interior is known for its colors and lavish ornamentation. Ottobeuren is also known for its three organs, especially that constructed by Karl Joseph Riepp in 1766.
