Linderhof Castle, Germany Photos

Linderhof Castle (1869-79), a small Rococo style villa, was constructed by King Ludwig II as an expression of his romantic fantasies about oriental fables and heroic legends of Germany. Located in a secluded valley in the Ammergau Alps, Linderhof Castle is surrounded by formal gardens. The grounds are dotted with unusual structures such as the Grotto of Venus, a Moorish Pavilion and reconstructions of the stage set from two Wagnerian operas.
