Wieskirche Pilgrimage Church, Steingaden, Germany Photos

Wieskirche Pilgrimage Church (1746-54), designed by J.B. & Dominikus Zimmermann, dominates the countryside of Steingaden. The large church is constructed on the site where tears were seen on a statue of Scourged Christ, attracting crowds of pilgrims. The oval Rococo church, a UNESCO World Heritage site, features elaborate stucco decorations & ceilings painted in a trompe-l'œil style.
