Palais de Chaillot, Paris Photos

Palais de Chaillot was built for the 1937 Paris Exposition by architects Carlu, Boileau & Azéma in Art Deco style. Numerous Art Deco sculptures decorate the site overlooking the Eiffel Tower. This curved arm-like building replaces an earlier structure, the Trocadero Palace built for the Paris Expo of 1878. The site was originally a stone quarry on Trocadero Hill above the Seine. The Pont d'Iéna (1814) built under Napoleon bridges between Palais de Chaillot & Eiffel Tower on the Champ de Mars. The Palais de Chaillot currently houses attractions like the Museum of French Monuments, the Marine (Naval) Museum, an aquarium & a theater.
