Argand Lamps Photos

The Argand Lamp was invented in 1780 by Aimé Argand. The design with a circular wick surrounded by a double-walled glass chimney which allows more air to flow past the flame, created a much brighter light and popularity for those rich enough to afford this fixture. Such lamps can be recognized by the oil reservoir above and to the side of the chimney which allows gravity to feed oil to the wick.
