Greek Ceramic Painted Amphorae Photos

Amphora (pl. amphorae) are ceramic storage jars (for oil, wine, etc.) defined by two vertical neck-handles. A rustic Amphora type with a pointed end was used for ship transport. Decorated types which were also somewhat tapered but were able to stand on a flat bottom were for household use. Both types had narrow necks.
