Dodge House Museum, Council Bluffs, IA Photos

General Grenville Dodge was a railway surveyor who became prominent enough to host Abraham Lincoln when Lincoln came to Council Bluffs to campaign for President. Dodge conveyed his vision of how to route American railways westward from Council Bluffs. During the Civil War Dodge became a General in making his mark both in battle and in repairing rail lines needed by Union troops. Grenville Dodge then became founding president of the Union Pacific Railroad and built his house (1869) in Council Bluffs. The Dodge House is now a museum (605 South 3rd St.) showing the opulence of this railway pioneer.
