Detroit Institute of Arts Building & Cultural Center Historic District Photos

The core of the Detroit Institute of Arts building on Woodward Ave. was designed by Paul Philippe Cret in 1927 using the Beaux Arts style. Two modernist wings (1966 & 1971) were designed by Gunnar Birkerts and the entire structure was updated in 2007. The museum occupies a large block in the Cultural Center Historic District where it is surrounded by other museums and educational structures.
