Montauk Point Lighthouse (1797) Montauk L.I., NY, authorized by George Washington & the Second Congress to safeguard ships traversing Long Island Sound, continues in operation to this day. Now owned by the Montauk Historical Museum, the lighthouse & museum feature exhibits related to the history of the lighthouse & Montauk County.
