King Edward VII Photos

Ruled Great Britain 22 January 1901 - 6 May 1910. King Edward VII came to the throne at Age 60. He had been a disappointment to his parents, Victoria & Albert, since childhood because he did not fare well in the rigorous course of study Albert had devised to prepare him to be King. As an adult, Victoria held him in low regard believing he lacked the character and intellect necessary in a good ruler. Denied by Victoria any participation in affairs of state, Edward adopted the life of a bon vivant. In his relatively short reign, Edward proved to be a very popular King among his subjects who enjoyed his outgoing personality. He was an able linguist, well informed on foreign affairs and used his diplomatic skills to improve significantly relations between England and France.
