Het Loo Palace, NL Photos

Het Loo Palace, once the summer palace of the Dutch Royal family and now a public museum, is perhaps best known for its extensive formal gardens. The four lower gardens are planted in embroidery-like patterns and adorned with many statues and water features. Willem III & his wife Queen Mary, who became rulers of England, built the palace between 1685-92. Het Loo was a royal residence until 1969. Upon becoming a museum, the palace was restored to reflect the décor & furnishings of Royalty who resided there over the centuries, particularly Willem III & Mary as well as Queen Wilhelmina & her family (19th & 20thC). Housed in the former stables is a display of coaches & vehicles once owned by the Royal family.
