The Alamo, San Antonio, TX Photos

Originally the Mission San Antonio de Valero, then a Mexican fort, the Alamo was captured by American federalists seeking independence in 1835. Santa Anna led a over a thousand Mexican troops to take back the Alamo & crush all rebels. Alamo commander William Barret Travis, notables like David Crockett, James Bowie & a total of 189 to 257 defenders fought to the last man to repel the charging Mexicans on the dawn of March 5, 1836. While futile, the defense became a symbol in the battle cry "Remember the Alamo".
