King François II Photos

French King François II reigned 1559-1560. François II, son of Henry II and Catherine de' Medici, was married at Age 15 to Mary, Queen of Scots, Age 16, who had been his fiancée and lived at the French court since she was Age 5. The arrangement had been intended to give French royalty a hold on the crowns of both Scotland and England. However, François II, always a sickly child, died after about a year on the throne, and Mary, Queen of Scots, returned to Scotland shortly thereafter.
