Saratoga Monument, Schuylerville, NY Photos

The Saratoga Monument (1883) marks the location of surrender (Oct. 17, 1777) of the British Army under General John Burgoyne to General Horatio Gates commander of American Revolutionary forces. The interior of this granite tower hosts a series of bronze reliefs (1885) by J.C. Markham depicting these historical events. Down the hill in the town of Schuylerville, NY sits the house (1777) of General Philip Schuyler, rebuilt immediately after the original house was burned during the conflict. Both sites are run by the National Park Service.
